Queen City Preparatory Academy offers other programs outside of the academy's extracurricular activities. We believe that it is very important to reach youth in and around the City of Charlotte and beyond. In order to stress the importance of health and physical fitness, we have created programs to help keep youth interested in sports which occur year round.
We have an annual basketball summer camp for youth ages 5-15 running from June through August. Our basketball camps have a unique focus of teaching basic fundamentals and various drills and techniques. Campers learn basketball handling skills through intensive ball control drills and then build on their superior ball-handling skills by learning quick moves off the dribble. Each camp session will provide a mix of physical activity, practice, instruction, life skills, and fun! There are indoor and outdoor activities as well as field trips! As an added bonus, each camper is provided with a daily breakfast and a daily "picnic style" lunch, also a camp t-shirt!
We are sponsors with the North Carolina Simplified Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), in which a nutritional breakfast and lunch are served to eligible children to ensure that children are getting the nutrition they need during the summer months when school is out for summer vacation. Meals are offered in community locations such as parks, playgrounds, community centers, schools, housing authorities, day camps and churches. SFSP begins in May and runs through September.
We have partnered with the Garner Road Family YMCA in Raleigh, North Carolina to host our annual fundraiser, the New Year Prep Classic Men's Basketball Tournament. This tournament draws some of the top teams in the country and also many Division I coaches and recruiters.
Queen City Prep also offers basketball training for youth ages 8-18. This training program has been very popular and the parents, coaches and youth have expressed how this training has helped the child get stronger and perform better for either their school team or AAU team.
