School life at Queen City Prep Academy does not begin and end in the classroom. Dorm life is a important component of a boarding student’s experience. Currently under construction, Queen City Prep Academy will build two dormitory halls, one for the men and one for women.
Most boarding students at Queen City Prep Academy will live in one of the two residence halls, the women’s dorm or the men’s dorm. Both dorms will offer a traditional residential setting. Two students most often will share a room, there will be shared common areas for relaxation and recreation, and the buildings will be staffed by full-time employees.
Dorm students are responsible for cleaning their own living areas and also have rotating dorm jobs by which they share responsibility for the whole dorm. Dorm staff strive to maintain an atmosphere that supports learning.
Homesickness is occasionally an issue, and may come or go throughout the year. Residential staff are generous with their time and are deeply concerned with the well-being of each student. Students may have cell phones or use the land lines in each dorm.
Dorm life is not like home life. The dynamics of group living dictate that boarding students live under certain restrictions that might not be an issue in a single-family residence. Shared bathrooms require a schedule, music volume must at times be limited in deference to the needs of others—in short, a student cannot always do what they want when they want to. The experience and skills that can be acquired by group living are great interpersonal skills to develop and are one more advantage residential students enjoy.
Until construction of our dormitories is complete, students will be housed in a residential housing facility, located in Charlotte, NC, staffed with a full-time Residential Director. The residential accommodations will be comparable to that of a dormitory and students will still abide by the rules of the dormitory.
Students will be provided with breakfast , lunch and dinner, Monday through Friday and brunch and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays.
Breakfast = 6:30am to 7:30am
Lunch = 11:10am to 11:55am
Dinner = 5:00pm to 6:00pm
Brunch = 11:00am to 12:30pm
